How long has it been since a major snowfall in North Carolina? In some parts of the state, it has been more than a decade since even an inch was on the ground!

To help visualize how recently — or how long ago — snow events have occurred, we have created maps showing the most recent events with at least 1 inch, 6 inches, and 12 inches on the ground all across the state.

For some background about these maps and the initial versions created in November 2021, see this blog post. We plan to update these maps each summer to reflect snow events in the previous winter.

Maps were last updated on June 10, 2024; click each map to open a larger version.
