Early season snowstorm brought near-record amounts of one to two feet in the Mountains, 3-12 inches over most of the Piedmont, and some snow or sleet all the way to the coast at Wilmington. Many awnings and sheds were downed due to the weight of the ice and snow. Schools closed. Hundreds of weather-related traffic accidents and tie-ups, with six deaths and many injuries. | |||
