Hurricane Sandy's massive circulation resulted in a prolonged duration of heavy, wet upslope snow in the North Carolina Mountains. Portions of the Southern Mountains reported up to 36" of snow. Strong winds also resulted in considerable blowing and drifting of the snow.
Peak wind gust reports included: 70mph at Jefferson airport in Ashe County, 60mph at the Watauga County NC Medical Center Heliport near Boone, and 50mph at Laurel Springs. |
