On New Year's Eve a period of light freezing rain resulted in light ice accumulations on elevated surface from the Triad east across the Virginia border counties north of Raleigh.
A light mix of sleet and snow developed over the mountains and foothills of western North Carolina during the evening, and continued for much of the overnight. Accumulations ranged from trace amounts over the lower elevations of the foothills, to localized 2-3 inch amounts over the mountains. A few slick spots developed on mountain roads, resulting in quite a few accidents. |
