Winter Storm Event

Snow, Sleet, Glaze, Cold Started: January 30, 1965 at 12 am EST Ended: January 31, 1965 at 12 am EST
Nearly all of the state was covered with one to five inches of ice and snow. Four people died of exposure and one from a fall on icy steps. There were numerous injuries. Several additional deaths and injuries occurred from traffic accidents associated with the weather. Lightning early in the storm period set fire to a church, a lumber mill, and several smaller buildings, and did heavy damage to a commercial radio transmitter. Power and telephone lines were down in some areas.
