Nearly all of the state was covered with one to five inches of ice and snow. Four people died of exposure and one from a fall on icy steps. There were numerous injuries. Several additional deaths and injuries occurred from traffic accidents associated with the weather. Lightning early in the storm period set fire to a church, a lumber mill, and several smaller buildings, and did heavy damage to a commercial radio transmitter. Power and telephone lines were down in some areas. | |||
