The state was covered with one to fifteen inches of snow on the 16th and 17th, followed by severe cold. At least four people died from cold and exposure. Several others were killed and many injured in weather-related traffic accidents. Some damage to power and communication lines occurred and schools were closed for one or more days in many areas.
