A strong upper-air disturbance resulted in an unexpected snowstorm which dumped between three and seven inches of snow across the mountains, piedmont and northern coastal plain. The snowfall resulted in the cancellation of schools and numerous automobile accidents. Specific snowfall amounts include: Raleigh-Durham 7", Charlotte 6", Asheville 3", Greensboro 4", Rocky Mount 3", and Mt. Mitchell 11". | |||
