Light freezing rain developed over portions of western North Carolina, primarily areas along the eastern Blue Ridge escarpment, the northern foothills, and northwest Piedmont as areas of low pressure moved along the Gulf and southeast Atlantic coast. The precipitation changed to rain in most locations during the late morning as temperatures warmed above freezing. Total ice accretion was generally around a tenth of an inch or less, although isolated spots along the eastern Blue Ridge saw around a quarter of an inch. | |||
