As an upper air disturbance approached the region from the west, light to moderate snow developed across the North Carolina mountains around midnight early on the 25th, mainly in the high elevations of the southern mountains, and across much of the central and northern mountains (including the valleys) near the Tennessee border. The bulk of the snow accumulated during the morning of the 25th, when 2-4 inches fell across a fairly large area. Snow showers then redeveloped within northwest flow behind a cold front across the Tennessee border counties during the afternoon, resulting in additional accumulations, although those were primarily confined to the high elevations along the Tennessee border. Total accumulations ranged from 2-4 inches in the valleys across the Tennessee border counties (from I-40 north) and in the high elevations of the southern mountains, to 4-8 inches in the higher elevations along the Tennessee border. | |||
