Light to moderate snow developed across the central and northern mountains during late morning and continued off and on through the afternoon. While most locations saw an inch or less, a small band of moderate to heavy snow developed during the afternoon from the high elevations of northern Jackson County, through central Haywood, and central and southern Buncombe Counties, where two to four inch amounts were common. Some high elevation areas saw as much as 5 inches in this area. Several accidents in the Balsam area resulted in major traffic problems on Highway 74 near the Haywood/Jackson line. | |||
